Assesment of Population Dose from Nuclear Medicine Procedures in Pernambuco (Brazil) During the Period 1990 - 1994

چکیده
INTRODUCTION The use of radionuclides in medical practice, either for diagnosis or for treatment, has grown steadily in recent years due to the introduction of new radiopharmaceuticals and equipment. Surveys of population doses derived from medical procedures have been conducted in several countries, but in Brazil this information has been scarce or non-existent. We thus decided to undertake a survey of nuclear medicine procedures in the State of Pernambuco, in order to help establish reference levels for nuclear medicine patients in Brazil. Data were gathered on the type of radiopharmaceuticals used, the administered activity, the numbers of each kind of examination, and the age and sex of the patients involved during the period 1990 – 1994, from all nuclear medicine institutes that operate in Recife, the capital of the state of Pernambuco.

Radiation exposure from diagnostic nuclear medicine examinations in Golestan province
Introduction: The aim of present study was to estimate effective dose from most common procedures performed in nuclear medicine departments of Golestan province. Methods: Data of nuclear medicine procedures performed in 2 nuclear medicine departments in Golestan province were collected during 4 years. Effective dose, collective effective dose and effective dose per examination were calculated ...
متن کاملStaff and patient absorbed doses due to diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures
Background: Annual patient effective dose equivalent can be considered as a quantitative physical parameter describing the activities performed in each nuclear medicine department. Annual staff dose equivalent could be also considered as a parameter describing the amount of radiation risk for performing the activities. We calculated the staff to patient dose equivalent ratio to be used as a phy...

In research institute for nuclear medicine (Tehran University of Medical Sciences) 50 patients with follicular thyroid carcinoma were evaluted retrospectively. The purpose of the study was assesment of the response of iodine-131 therapy. The best result were achieved when the patient treated with iodine-131 for the first time, in the 4th decade of life, with total thyroidectomy and no met...
متن کاملActive Personal Dosimeter in a Nuclear Medicine Center in Yazd City, Iran
Introduction: Active personal dosimeters (APDs) are well accepted as useful and reliable instruments for individual dosimetry measurements. APDs have many advantages compared with passive dosimeters for individual external radiation dose assessments. In routine monitoring, occupational exposure is carried out for verification and demonstration of compliance with the regulatory dose limits. So, ...
متن کاملAssessment of whole-body occupational radiation exposures in nuclear medicine practices of Bangladesh during 2010-2014
Introduction: Occupational exposure to ionizing radiation due to medical activities (both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures) has increased sharply in recent years. Among the occupationally exposed workers in these fields, those most affected by this increased exposure to ionizing radiation are nuclear medicine workers. In this study, annual average effective dose, annual collective effectiv...
